Visits 2025

Our first outing for 2025 was self-drive to Stoberry House garden during May. Owned by Mr & Mrs Young, the six acre site was full of colour and interest . After an introductory talk we were able to wander around the walled garden, and the sunken garden as well as admire the naturalistic pond. With stunning views over to Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury Tor and an excellent tea this was a marvellous start to this season's trips.

In June we visited Batcombe House garden outside Shepton Mallet, owned by garden designer Libby Morris.

This was a garden of two halves, one a riot of colour, perenials and annuals, and the other a grass amphitheatre of muted tones.

Head Gardener Tom Price gave a very interesting introductory talk and stayed with us for the visit, which was much appreciated.

Excellent tea and cakes added to the pleasure of a delightfu, sunny afternoon.

July saw us travelling by coach to Oxfordshire.

We first visited Kingston Bagpuize House gardens, owned by Virginia Grant. This was a very tranquil place  with  interesting borders and a terrific range of trees and shrubs, young and old.

Virginia stayed with us for the morning, adding to our enjoyment by sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm.

After an excellent lunch at KBH we went on to Green and Gorgeous flower farm, owned by Rachel Siegfried.

Rachel guided us round the breathtaking rows of perenials and annuals that are grown for cutting, explaining what is cut and what has to be left to safeguard the future of the farm.

She then gave us an inspirational floristry demonstration. â€‹

Tea and cake finished the day.

In August our final visit of this season was to Gasper Cottage near Stourhead. Owned by Bella Hoare and Johnnie Gallop, the cottage is surrounded by thoughtful and artistic colour combinations. After an introduction, Bella and her head gardener, Jack Clutterbuck, stayed with us for the afternoon. Filling us in on how this very attractive garden was developed within the Wiltshire countryside only added to our enjoyment.

Johnnie provided the excellent tea and cakes.
